luckily gameguard has fixed this problem
unluckily pRO didnt seem to purchase or upgraded their version of gameguard

Does Ragnarok online ph work on windows vista home basic?i installed RO war of the emperium because i cannot find valkyrie cd. they said as long as you have ragnarok installed it will be ok so after that i installed RO valkyrie updater. after i ran the game error 153 occurs saying that game guard is either incomplete or cracked, try reinstall, i tried but nothing happens. what's wrong? im still downloading RO valkyrie full client for 4 days and it is still in 45%! Help!!! T_T

The RO Valkyrie updater is only for people who has recent patched Ragnarok.

Yours is old, so you have to update everything first, or download I meant.

Help! I'm using Windows Vista Home Edition Premium.

I have no problems patching, but when it comes to authenticating Game Guard, I get the Error 114: Failed to initialize Game Guard. Please try again after rebooting the system or closing other programs.

I have:
1. Turned off my firewall.
2. Turned off my virus program
3. Restarted my pc.

I finally got it to work.

I turned off the UAC (sorry, didn't see the former posts) and got an idea on how to run RO on Vista (from a site about Trickster Online). Make sure that your Vista copy is genuine. The following steps below won't work if your Vista OS is pirated or a copy: http://www.tricksteronline.com/forum/forums/post/1794.aspx

1. Locate your profile folder
* Click the 'Start' button.
* Type "C:/Users/" and hit enter and a window should pop up with a list of folders.
* Find the one with the same name as your Windows username and double-click it.
* You should now see a list of all your personal folders: Desktop, Pictures, Documents, Favorites, things like that.
2. Locate the profile data for Ragnarok Online.
* You need the AppData folder (which is hidden by default), so, click on the location bar at the top (it should say something like : Local Disk (C:) > Users > (your user name). Click in the blank space between that and the little down arrow.
* It should change into a normal textbox with the contents highlighted. Click in the blank space again to unhighlight everything.
* Now type or copy and paste: \appdata\local\virtualstore\program files\ragnarok online
* Hit enter.
3. Install Ragnarok online on the above location.
* If you are logged in as an account without administrator rights, and if it says something about permission, just click 'continue' or allow.
4. REMEMBER TO TURN OFF "USER ACCOUNT CONTROL" FIRST before patching!
5. Start RO normally!

*If your Windows crashes, just restart your computer/laptop. That happened to me, but when I restarted, everything functioned normally.

Simple way to turn off your User Account Control - but make sure that you're the Administrator. I don't think you can modify the settings if you're not the Admin:

1. Click on Start.
2. Click on Control Panel.
3. Look for User Accounts. A new window will pop up.
4. Look for "Turn User Account Control on or off" and click on that. A new window will pop up.
5. Remove the checkmark on "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer.
6. Click OK.
7. A window will pop up and will ask you to restart your computer.
8. Restart your computer.

You dont have to uninstall GG.

I kept getting that message too when I installed it 'normally', meaning I didn't follow the above steps that I posted. When I followed the steps that I posted here earlier, the next error I got was Game Guard 114.

I had to disable UAC to get game guard to authenticate. Afterwards, I turned the UAC back on when Ragnarok and Gameguard was able to load. I'm playing Ragna normally - no errors whatsoever. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Hi Lex,

Are you sure that you're the Admin of your pc? You cannot perform the UAC steps if you're not the administrator of your pc. I'm admin and these are the things that I see when I click on User Accounts at the Control Panel (and this is regardless whether you're in Classic View or not):

Change your picture
Change your account name
Change your account type
Manage another account
Turn User Account Control on or off

Just in case. Your issue Control Panel sounds like you have a Win XP OS... though I know that some Vista OS have that "change the way users log on or off".

Well I got past all the problems of those who posted before me, I logged in, created a character, became an addict of RO and so on...

But after playing RO and exiting to the desktop I could no longer open my control panel, got to do something with software licensing because it pops up afterwards and I see my windows vista deactivated afterwards also. I know my OS is legit, bought the pc for P40k and my only solution for the moment is the repeating usage of system restore.

And I know Game(Gay)Guard is the main culprit because when the server had its GG deactivated, no such problems occured.

Nope. RO is not mac-friendly. You may want to ask for help on how to have RO working. Is the term "Windows-OS emulator" correct?

YES, Ragnarok will run on mac BUT not fully supported.
You need vmware and install windows 98 on it.

Can anyone help me i think it has something to do with her RO folder which has the read only box checked but when she tries to uncheck it and apply it it doesn't work @_@. Before she can play after patching for a long long time, but this past maintenance she encounters a problem i think with the xmas patch on placed on sakray server it fails to patch that part can anyone please help me..

Let her deactivate the UAC - User Account Control (see my former posts), restart your computer as instructed, then patch.

If it still doesn't work, uninstall Ragnarok, then delete Gameguard and the Ragnarok folder and follow the instructions I posted here on making Ragna work in Vista.

I recently encountered a patching problem with Ragnarok last week, but it's because I turned my UAC on. When I turned it off, my patching was successful. ^_^

Hi there... Maybe your Windows Vista is a trial version?

I never experienced that problem before. Mine was because my UAC was turned on, that's why I couldn't patch and Gameguard was being blocked.

hello.. i wanted to try out valhala..

i'm cleared off the usual problems mentioned here up until i select the server - into character selection..
then RO stops responding..

i use vista home premium, original on my laptop.. with A-ok specs

i haven't tried doing the same thing in normal servers or valk..

the weird thing is, the same problem happens to RO when even i run it on my desktop with XP..

i don't think my specs are bad coz i can still play CS on both and multitask programs..

please help me..

and oh yeah, i used hugel + rachel + valhala for installation

please po tulungan niyo ako. para na akong maglupasay sa sobrang bad trip.

ginawa ko na po lahat na dapat gawin sa Vista. nilipat ko na po yung files from gravity/ragnarok online papunta dun sa users/..../ragnarok online.

ngayon pong nagpapatch ako, kapag nag start game ako, ang lumalabas eh

saan pa po ba ang mali dito, nakatatlo na akong reinstall at inuulit-ulit ko pa yung mga instructions sa vista.
