My Content
I just want you to know before you post here, that I want honest opinions with regards to the topic(especially the ones who've used either one of them); since I already read some but I need more feedback from people like you guys .
I am currently thinking about using either one of the two: - McAfee Internet Suite 2008 - Norton Internet Suite 2008
Both are US $49.99, got no problems with money, the only thing I need is honest feedbacks about the products (either one of them or both) If one is more preferable than the other, just state your side.
Lastly, I will be closing this topic after I get enough feedbacks from you guys. Again I only want honest opinions from the products. Thanks!
I noticed a lot of people are posting problems on connectivity issues, and seriously, it's hard to check each thread one by one (especially if the problem was repetitive) SO if you guys won't mind, check this thread first for solutions before posting somewhere else. to my fellow tech-mates, post your other solutions here if I somehow missed any Failed to connect Now this problem has a lot of factors involved that hampers your connectivity issues, first and foremost is your
Internet Service Provider (or ISP) - Now you may need to call your HelpDesk for your ISP to check whether or not your connection is stable, but if there's no problem surfing the internet, then it might be somewhere else.
Firewalls - Your currently installed firewall might be preventing Ragnarok to access internet, This solution is for Windows Firewall and to tweak that and let pRO access the internet (so it may connect) just click Start > Control Panel > Windows Firewall (or Security). At the Firewall window, click the Exemptions tab, then click Add Program.. select Ragnarok Online and hit Ok.
For other brand of firewalls, please post it here because each and every firewall application has a different way to add exemptions. Just post here you're firewall and we'll look it out for you (or you can just Google it to save time by waiting for a reply here)
Routers - If you're using one (especially those with another firewall installed in it) then that might be the cause of preventing RO to access the patch server. Again it depends on your brand name so post it here first and we might be able to look one for you
A solution by iRO is also listed below (credits go to them) In order to resolve this issue, please first check to make sure that you have ports 20, 21, 80, 443, 4500, and 6900 open for outbound connections on all firewalls and routers in your network. Please note that Windows XP with Service Pack 2 has a built-in firewall that can be controlled and configured via the Control Panel. Please make sure that your internet connection is stable and reliable, and that the connection can maintain a long term connection and sustain large file transfers.
If the problem persists after ensuring your internet connection is working properly, please be aware that both patch clients are now affected by the connection settings of Internet Explorer. As such, please make sure that you have properly configured Internet Explorer according to the settings specified by your ISP or network administrator. If your ISP or network administrator has not specified any settings for you to use on Internet Explorer, please try the following to attempt to resolve the issue:
1. Close all instances of Ragnarok Online and any patch clients. 2. Close all but one Internet Explorer window.
Internet Explorer 7 users: At the remaining Internet Explorer window, click "Tools", then select "Delete Browsing History", then click "Delete all...", then check the "Also delete files and settings stored by add-ons.", then click "Yes". After you have done this, do step 3, but skip step 4 and 5.
3. At the remaining Internet Explorer window, click on "Tools" then select "Internet Options..." 4. At the "General" tab, under the "Temporary Internet Files" section, click on "Delete Cookies...", press OK when asked to confirm. 5. Then under the same section, click on "Delete Files", a confirmation box should appear, check "Delete all offline content" and click OK. 6. Now click on the "Security" tab, and select the "Internet" zone, make sure the zone is set to "Medium" if the "Default Level" button is not grayed out, please click on the "Default Level" button. 7. Now click on the "Privacy" tab, and if the "Default" button under "Settings" is not grayed out, please click on "Default". 8. Now click on the "Connections" tab, and under the "Local Area Network (LAN) settings", please click on the "LAN Settings..." button. You should then see the "Local Area Network (LAN) Settings" dialog box. 9. At the "Local Area Network (LAN) Settings" dialog box, please make sure that "Automatically detect settings" is checked and all other options are NOT checked. Press OK to close this dialog box. 10. Now click on the "Advanced" tab, please find the setting that says: "Use Passive FTP (for firewall and DSL modem compatibility)". If you are behind a Network Address Translation (NAT) router, firewall, or are using a DSL modem, please make sure this option is checked. In all other cases, please make sure this is unchecked. 11. Press OK to close the "Internet Options" dialog box. Close all Internet Explorer instances, then try running the RO patch clients again. If it does not work, try changing the setting in step 10 and try again.
This should resolve most patch client issues you may be experiencing. If the problem persists AND you still have the Ragnarok Online installation program (version 10.2 Einbroch or later), please go to the Ragnarok Online program folder and delete the following files:
* patch2.txt * patch_allow.txt * notice_patch.txt * any files that end with the extension .GPF * patch.inf * spatch.inf
Then, please make sure that you have the appropriate disk access permissions and privileges to read, write, modify, and delete files in the Ragnarok Online program folder. Then run the Ragnarok Online installation program and complete a "REPAIR" of the installation. Then, run the main patch client followed by the Sakray patch client to force a re-patch. If you do not have the installation program, please follow the next resolution suggestion.
This should solve almost all the most common patch client issues. If the problem continues to persists, please uninstall Ragnarok Online, re-download the latest client from our website, and reinstall using the latest download.

Rag.exe ERROREver seen that "Error has occured and we need to shut down blah blah" error when you run Ragnarok, or that nasty huge pile of hex logs and at the bottom it says your character on it. That's because your Rag.exe has a problem, now it might be corrupted, infected or something else.
The only way which I knew that works, is by copying a CLEAN, WORKING, UNHEXED Rag.exe, if you have trusted friends, then copy from them.. if not, err.. find one (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) Now just bring a flash drive, copy his Rag.exe. Go back to your PC and rename your old Rag.exe into Rag-old.exe. Paste the file you copied from your friend. When you run the client, it should ask for a restart, just hit that and it would work again (hopefully) Failed to get ________________ Any failed to get issue should supposedly be resolved by downloading it from our FTP patch site then running the client back again, let it repack then play normally again, unfortunatelly..
I noticed a lot of you are working on this failed to get 2006-1-26.mp3.gpf problem. Some tried fresh, clean install from a Noghaltz cd but it won't work. Some even downloaded the file but it still won't work - honestly, that's how far we can get through. Uninstall, delete all folders, RESTART, Install again - is the only way to resolve the issue (supposedly) Even Customer Support has been sending the same canned (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) reply which doesn't really help at all... I rememberd something that whenever LU releases a new patch, they intend to suggest to uninstall the old clients and install the new one (don't ask me why) that's why some Louyang installers are now having trouble of patching.
I looked upon iRO's FAQ site, maybe this will help: (credits go to iRO) -You may have obtained your client from an unofficial source (unofficial fansite, friend, foreign Ragnarok Online website, etc.). You must download the official Ragnarok Online client from our official website or mirror sites.
-The server may currently be busy with many other user downloads, causing you to be temporarily unable to download.
-You may not have the required 800 MB of free memory on your hard drive.
-You may have aborted a previous patch attempt or it was interrupted. If this is the case, you must delete all of the patch files the client has downloaded before trying again. Patch file names end with the extensions `.gpf` and `.rgz.` Please be careful and avoid deleting important data files with the `.grf` file extension, especially `data.grf.`
-Your patch2.txt file may be damaged/corrupted. Please delete this file and then re-try the patch process.
-If you are behind a firewall, you may not have ports 20 and 21 outbound open on the firewall. Please be sure to open it so you may access the patch file server.
-If you are in a business/university setting, the business/university may require special access methods to access ports 20 and 21. Please contact your network administrator for further assistance. Cannot init d3d or grf file has a problemThanks to iRO for this one.. -- Please try setting the game resolution to 640x480 fullscreen. If this works, you may adjust up from this point. Please be sure to use one of the resolution values where the first value exceeds the second value. [i.e. 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, etc.] The other values are recommended against using unless you have a widescreen monitor and can configure it properly.
-- Please verify that your video card meets the minimum system requirements and if supported as outlined in system requirements. If it does not, we suggest purchasing a video card that is supported.
* NOTE: Please be aware that motherboards with a built-in video card that has the Intel® Graphics Controller chipset will not support Ragnarok Online. Please use a different and seperate video card. * Note: Please be aware that the Intel® 82810E Graphics Controller and similar such cards are not fully 3D compatible and therefore will not support Ragnarok Online. * If you are purchasing an nVidia GeForce 4 line of video cards: The nVidia GeForce 4 MX series has the equivilent power of an nVidia GeForce 3 series video card, as it is offered as a value video card and is not the same as the nVidia GeForce 4 Ti series. If you wish to get the full performance of the GeForce 4 line of video cards, please make sure you purchase a GeForce 4 Ti series or better.
-- If you have a built-in graphics card on your motherboard, you must allocate at least 8MB of RAM to this card. You may do so in your system BIOS. For assistance with this process, please consult your system manual or contact your hardware vendor.
-- Please be sure you have the latest version of DirectX installed, which can be obtained from Microsoft.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/
-- Please be sure that you are using the latest available drivers for your video hardware. You may obtain this software by visiting the video card manufacturer`s website. If you do not know the manufacturer of your video hardware, please contact the vendor from where you have purchased your PC for assistance. Note that most instances of this error are caused by outdated video drivers.
-- Please run the Ragnarok Online Setup program by running the Setup.exe file located in the Ragnarok Online file folder. By default, this folder is C:\Program Files\Gravity\RagnarokOnline. In the Setup program, be sure a rendering device is chosen in the Drop-Down Menu located at the top of the Setup program window. You may wish to try changing rendering devices as well.
-- If no rendering device is available in the previous step, please perform the following. Click Windows` `Start` button and choose the `Run...` function. In the resulting prompt, type in DxDiag, and press enter. If it pops up a dialog asking if you want it to certify drivers, click `Yes.` Once the diagnostic tool loads completely, click on the Display tab. Afterwards, look near the bottom and make sure that direct draw and Direct3D acceleration are both enabled. If either of these is disabled, please enable them.
-- If you are running in windowed mode, please try running Windows in 16 bit color mode.
-- Also, if you have any featured video card enhancements, please be sure to set them to a default setting to help avoid any further conflicts with the client.
Audio init failedCredits go to iRO.. This error can occur for multiple reasons, we suggest that you make sure your sound card drivers are up to date with the most recent driver versions for your specified sound card, please visit your sound card manufacturers website for the latest sound card drivers.
Also, it is possible that your Direct X (direct sound) may need to be updated, you can update your direct X to the most recent version by visiting:
http://www.microsoft.com/directx/
This is fully compatible with Ragnarok Online. By updating your direct X you will update your direct sound drivers which may be causing the Failure to Initialize.
Lastly, it is possible that your audio settings for Ragnarok are not compatible with your sound card, please open the Ragnarok Options (Start Menu> Programs> Ragnarok Online> Setup) and change all audio to the lowest settings, click ok then launch the game. It is suggested that before disabling all the audio in the setup menu, that you try multiple configurations beforehand.
If you continue to have problems, we suggest contacting your computer administrator or sound card manufacturer. Sprite ErrorsUsually, if you're using an updated version of pRO it shouldn't be a problem, just make sure you have the updated patches to make sure you won't get that error Disconnected due to a time gap between you and the serverCredits go to iRO This error maybe caused by packet loss, incorrect or misconfigured network card settings/drivers, or by incorrect BIOS settings. Please check the following to resolve the issue:
* Please uninstall and reinstall your network device and its drivers. Please make sure that your network drivers are up-to-date and are of the latest and correct version for the Operating System you are using. * Please make sure that if you are on a network with other users [i.e. a home network], that no other PCs are running bandwidth intensive applications, such as P2P/Filesharing programs. * Please scan your PC for viruses and spyware to be sure these are not interfering with your gameplay by using extra bandwidth. * If you are using Quality of Service [QoS] on your PC, routing device, or anywhere in your network, please be sure to give Ragnarok Online traffic higher priority to avoid lost packets, or disable the QoS driver/device. * Please try upgrading your PC power supply, as the current power supply may not be powerful enough for your PC hardware. * Please make sure that your system time and clock is correct, set to the correct date, time, and time zone. Please make sure your system clock synchronizes to a time server on the internet. A list of time [NTP] servers can be found here:
http://ntp.isc.org/bin/view/Servers/StratumTwoTimeServers
* Please upgrade your system BIOS to the latest version available. Also, if your BIOS has an "FSB Speed spectrum" option, please disable it. Please consult your system BIOS and motherboard documentation for instructions and important information about BIOS upgrades.

My last suggestion, don't trust CustSupport that much (IMG: style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)
Since there's a lot of people who are asking for Where to(s), I've compiled some of the important links which might be helpful in order to play pRO thoroughly. Please take note as well that faster download speed is preferable then performing downloads of huge amount. I rarely advise dial-up connection especially on manual patching. For Manual Patchingftp://fpatch.ragnarok.com.ph/patchrecommending fast internet speedThis ftp link provides access to most of the recent patches for pRO commercial servers as well as the older ones. This is the most important site for all those who are willing to manually patch their clients cause the files can be easily found there. Be warned, there are hidden files in that ftp site, so for example if 2006-10-13guard.rgz can't be found in that directory, all you need to do if type the whole ftp site together with the file like this:ftp://fpatch.ragnarok.com.ph/patch/2006-10-13guard.rgz but not all can be found in the ftp site. ftp://fpatch.ragnarok.com.ph/sakpatchrecommending fast internet speedThis ftp link, like the one aforementioned, is for pRO Sakray patches. Very helpful for all those who want to try out the test-server Sakray in order to test out the new characters, patches, items, equips, quests, features etc. Be warned of the wipe-out though, and no compensations in this server. pRO Installer & pRO Sakray Installerhttp://torrent.levelupgames.ph/recommending seeders firstThis is the hardway, since no one really seeds that much. Oh wait, what am I talking about? This site contains torrent files(not the actual installers yet) of pRO commercial and pRO Sakray, and other LU games. All you need to do is click on it, you will get a prompt on downloading a torrent file. Just save it on your desktop. If you know about Bittorrents, good for you. If not, you might want to download one like Bitcomet (download here) and install it. Once installed, on the upper left hand side, you'll see an Icon - Open click it, then find the torrent file which you downloaded. Click on it, then it will open a dialogue box, you might want to change the save location then hit Ok. This is where the hard part is, if no one is uploading a full copy of that installer (the one I called seeds) then you're doomed on getting the installer being downloaded. Proceed to my next link, the easiest one!
ftp://torrent.levelupgames.ph/Ragnarok/pRO_Louyang.ziphighly recommending fast internet speedThis is a ftp site of direct download for the pRO installer (not the Sakray installer) in Winzip format. You may use WinRAR for extracting the files inside of it. This one is hidden, and I don't know why it is hidden but now you guys can have the benefit of directly downloading it rather than waiting several hours using torrents. In case you are wondering how to change those passwords, e-mails etc w/o the hassle of seeing that html site wherein you are asked to create a mylevelup account just to do those, now here's the good news, we still have the traditional way of doing those!
