LAG

QUOTE

Lag
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

For other uses, see Lag (disambiguation).

Lag often refers to delays experienced in computing communications, however it may also apply to written or other forms of communication.

Within computing, Lag refers to the time taken for a packet of data from the sending application to the receiving application. This includes both transit time over the network, and computer processing time at both the source and destination computers.

Whilst in the strictest sense every packet experiences lag, the term lag is implied to refer to noticeable delays to the user caused as a result of extended or unexpected delay. As the time taken for a packet to travel from a server in Europe to a client nearby in the same region is likely to differ from a trip from Europe to the Americas or Asia, it is possible that two users may experience connections to the same server with a different extent of network lag.

QUOTE
Causes of delay

Lag may be traced to two main sources:

Inadequate network performance
The packets are either interrupted along their path by faulty routers, the network cannot handle the number of packets sent/required (see: bandwidth) or the packets pass through an unusually large number of routers before reaching their destination.
Inadequate processing power
Lag may be experienced where the user submits an unusual request which is not yet cached, or where the reply requires a large amount of processing before it can be sent. This affects multiplayer gaming . The bandwidth of an area which the packets would normally pass through quickly may be disrupted during working hours (for example), thus the packet would need to 'queue' at each router before being sent onwards.

QUOTE

Gaming

Lag, from "lag behind" and Warp, from "warping", are slang terms for slow Internet speeds or Internet latency; Lag is sometimes due to a server problem, but more frequently due to the connection between client and server. A slow or intermittent connection may often be referred to as laggy.

LAGi natin naririnig at nababasa term na ito.

DIAL-UP
QUOTE
Dial-up access is a form of Internet access through which the client uses a modem connected to a computer and a telephone line to dial into an Internet service provider's (ISP) node to establish a modem-to-modem link, which is then routed to the Internet.

QUOTE
Performance

Modern dial-up modems typically have a maximum theoretical speed of 56 kbit/s (using the V.92 protocol), although in most cases only up to 53 kbit/s is possible due to overhead and FCC regulation. These speeds are currently considered the maximum possible; in many cases transfer speeds will be lower, averaging anywhere between 33-43 kbit/s. Factors such as phone line noise and conditions, as well as the quality of the modem itself, if the modem is external or internal, all play a large part in determining connection speeds.

Dial-up connections usually have high latency that can be as high as 200 ms or even more, which can make online gaming or videoconferencing difficult, if not impossible.

DIAL-UP Connection.

• Check your phone line.
ºº maingay ba yung dial-tone, grounded.
ºº wires > wear-out na ba? baka nginat-nat na ng daga etc.
ºº Kung kinakailangan, tumawag ka sa Telephone provider mo.

• Modem
QUOTE
A modem (a portmanteau constructed from modulate and demodulate) is a device that modulates an analog carrier signal to encode digital information, and also demodulates such a carrier signal to decode the transmitted information.

ºº Check niyo ang wirings lagi, kagaya nung phone lines, power supply etc.

• Use good Internet ServiceProvider
I recommend these:
ºº ISP Bonanza - affordable packages found here http://www.ispx.com.ph/bonanza/
dati 440 / month unlimited . Mabilis connection nila wether bayantel or PLDT ka.

ºº for PLDT subscriber - syempre Vibe
ºº for BAYANTEL - Blast

For DSL Connection

• almost same as dial-up check niyo yung wirings
• for Smart-Bro user, mag reklamo kayo pag laging below 200 kbits/s ang speed niyo. negotiate if kailangan pa dagdagan ang height ng antenna.

Spyware

QUOTE

Malicious websites may attempt to install spyware on readers' computers.
In the field of computing, the term spyware refers to a broad category of malicious software designed to intercept or take partial control of a computer's operation without the informed consent of that machine's owner or legitimate user. While the term taken literally suggests software that surreptitiously monitors the user, it has come to refer more broadly to software that subverts the computer's operation for the benefit of a third party.

Spyware's brothers

Virus
QUOTE
A virus is a manmade program or piece of code that causes an unexpected, usually negative, event. Viruses are often disguised games or images with clever marketing titles such as "Me, nude."

WORM
QUOTE
Computer Worms are viruses that reside in the active memory of a computer and duplicate themselves. They may send copies of themselves to other computers, such as through email or Internet Relay Chat (IRC).

Trojan Horse
QUOTE
A Trojan horse program is a malicious program that pretends to be a benign application; a Trojan horse program purposefully does something the user does not expect. Trojans are not viruses since they do not replicate, but Trojan horse programs can be just as destructive.

For Spyware's brothers I recommend

McAfee
Opinion: Para sa akin mas ok effective ang McAfee instead of Norton, AVG and others.

Hey, may idea ba kayo sa web na kayang i crush ng gustong i crash ng mga taong walang magawa ang web site mo for example? nag trial test hosting ako sa geocities then after that may nag text sa akin na kaya raw niyang i crash ang web page ko (abah nangyari nga ang ginawa niya eh some kind of link ata or software kung meron man, ni link niya ata web site ko para mag EXCEED ang TRANSFER LIMIT ng web site ko) tuloy ayaw mag post ng sample website ko laging ninonotice ng geocities na "you are exceeding you web limit". so this is my question for you dude, may idea ba kayo dun or may alam ba kayo na iba pang paraan para di nila magawang i CRUSH ang sites??.................because free hosting kasi ang geocities eh o kaya'y may alam ba kayong ibang free web hosting site na walang data transfer limits di tulad ng sa geocities???........thanks sa answer......smile.gif

2. Install update versions one after the other, in chronological order, to where the full version is installed. Check Update from Full version option from selection screen.
3. Run Autopatcher.
4. Updates, checked by default and marked in black letters are currently not installed in your system. Updates in blue and unchecked are already installed. Choose, by checking the corresponding box, which of the updates in black you want installed. (Please refer to bottom part of post for updates installation advisory.)
5. After choosing the updates, click Update button to execute the patching process.
6. Depending on the number of selections and processor and memory speed, the update process may take a while to finish.
7. After the process has finished, click the Finish and Restart Now buttons to reboot PC and effect all the necessary changes and updates.

Installation Advisory (for Aug-Oct 2006):
QUOTE
*install everything under Critical Updates, EXCEPT KB917422, as it's known to cause loading conflicts on some programs and PC games

*if you have a reliable antispyware program installed, there is no need to install the Malicious Software Removal Tool

*install everything under Recommended Updates, EXCEPT KB319740 v5 as it permanently disables the use of customized desktop themes.. unless you always want to use the Windows Classic desktop theme..

*under Updated Components:
- install everything under .NET Framework
- install everything under Windows Script 5.6
- install Windows Media Player 10, unless you use either v11 or anything older than v10.. some updates under Recommended Updates wont work if you dont use v10..
- install Windows Installer v3.1
- if you use a laptop, install Windows Journal Viewer.. software works for Tablet PC OS..
- if you want to import your multimedia files to stereo and TV, install Windows Media Connect..
- User Profile Hive Cleanup Service should be installed if you experience a slower PC reboot and a Userenv loading error message appears under Event Viewer.. anything other than the Userenv cause, you dont need to install it..
- if you use MSN Messenger, Windows Live Messenger is an updated version of the chat program..
- install everything under Microsoft XML Parser

*Windows Genuine Advantage, strongly advise you to ignore this one, and UNCHECK everything under it!

*almost everything under Windows Add-Ons are practically safe to install, with the EXCEPTION of Google Toolbar, which can cause conflicts with Windows Explorer..
just click to highlight an item to view its description, which are pretty much self-explanatory.. though i would highly recommend you enable/check the boxes for Flash Player, Shockwave Player, and SunJava updates..

*under Tweaks, if you dont know which Windows tweak would work for you, i would suggest you leave all of them UNCHECKED first then continue with the update process..
after the updates have been installed and PC has rebooted, enable System Restore from System Properties.. then manually create a restore point under System Restore..
to access System Restore program, either go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore or type Restore from Start > Run to open Restore subfolder and double-click rstrui.exe file to open the program..

once a restore point has been successfully created, rerun Autopatcher.. then go directly to the Tweaks category..
read carefully and understand each of the tweak's description..
check a tweak's box if you're sure you want it done after pressing the Update button.. almost all tweaks provided there are practically safe to install, and can be reverted back using System Restore if you see any unwanted changes in your desktop, windows explorer, etc..

i say, almost all, because the Remove IPC$ Share Remote Netbios Attack Vulnerability tweak found under the Security subcategory is known to cause the slowing down of, if not disable, your internet connection.. i would highly recommend you UNCHECK it..

but then again, System Restore can be your friend as it can revert any changes you have inadvertently enabled ot checked, back to your "normal" settings..

If found one,
• use a reliable anti-virus like McAfee. Update, Scan all files, and clean. IPB Image
• you also use Stinger. > http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/ it also from McAfee.

Kapag masyadong infected ang PC mo, try to back-up your important files ie. \My documents\ to a flash drive. Then scan the flash drive with a fully updated anti-virus.
Then Format Clean the whole PC.

Maganda rin kng gagamit ka rin ng disk defragmenter kc kinocompress nya ang mga malalaking bytes ng files at pra din bumilis din ang takbo ng pc.

about mcafee..

which do you prefer mcafee Virus Scan Plus or mcafee Internet security suite.. kac e2 lng ang may free dL...
Ghós†Ålker
I installed my PC with Mcafee Internet security 8.1, it comes with Viruscan, Mcafee Firewall, Spam killer, and Privacy service.

I've tried a version 11, but it seems it is not compatible with my OS.

MY Anti-Virus update setting is Automatic Update and install updated files.

Correction: Disk Defragmenter doesn't compress the files, it just re-allocates them (places them together) cause by default they are "fragmented"/separated when they are written on your hard disk drive.

it will still lag ng konti, lalo na sa vending area, kc minimum requirement lng inabot mo sa processor,

wag k nlng mag limewire or mga downloading prgrams that will use ur internet, and make your virtual memory a little bit larger than the usual wag kna mag effect on sa vending area, cguradong dc ka... hheeheh, and if mag RO k nmn pede mo nmn muna off antivirus mo

eto pang isa... (mostly for winXP users, wala pang Vista)

may mga programs, services, at settings sa computer na nagpapabagal sa performance ng computer. the best thing to do about it is to disable them.

link sa instructions papaano i-disable ang mga services na di kailangan: http://www.joejoe.org/forum/index.php?show...2&Itemid=89

CAUION: make sure you know your computer before you do any modifying. at least do system restore before trying this option. and this option only improves performance a little, but if even little is important to you, you can proceed. just be careful.

LAG
quote from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lag
LAGi natin naririnig at nababasa term na ito.
DIAL-UP
===========================
Internet Provider Side.
===========================
DIAL-UP Connection.

• Check your phone line.
ºº maingay ba yung dial-tone, grounded.
ºº wires > wear-out na ba? baka nginat-nat na ng daga etc.
ºº Kung kinakailangan, tumawag ka sa Telephone provider mo.

• Modem
sample of an internal modem http://computer.bizhat.com/images/modem.gif
External 56k modem http://www.greatcanadianreviews.ca/usb_serial_modem2.jpg

ºº Check niyo ang wirings lagi, kagaya nung phone lines, power supply etc.

• Use good Internet ServiceProvider
I recommend these:
ºº ISP Bonanza - affordable packages found here http://www.ispx.com.ph/bonanza/
dati 440 / month unlimited . Mabilis connection nila wether bayantel or PLDT ka.

ºº for PLDT subscriber - syempre Vibe
ºº for BAYANTEL - Blast

For DSL Connection

• almost same as dial-up check niyo yung wirings
• for Smart-Bro user, mag reklamo kayo pag laging below 200 kbits/s ang speed niyo. negotiate if kailangan pa dagdagan ang height ng antenna.

May mga Spywares at Adwares na nag-a-access ng internet mo. Puksain sila.

Fight SPYWAREs and ADWARES.
Use this Free Softwares to scan your PC.
SPYBOT Search and Destroy
Ad-aware
Microsoft Windows Defender (formerly MS AntiSpyware)

Spyware's brothers

Virus
WORM
Trojan Horse
For Spyware's brothers I recommend

McAfee
Opinion: Para sa akin mas ok effective ang McAfee instead of Norton, AVG and others.
